Many letters of thanks and tears were received from the recipients. You who have supported St. Bernardine's financially share the thanks and promised prayers. "When you did it for the least of my brothers, you did it for me". May the Lord continue to bless us and give us the hearts to share.
The History of Tithing at St Bernardine
At the beginning of the fiscal year 2004/2005 with the unanimous support of
both the Parish Council and the Parish Financial Council, Father McNamara
decided to make St. Bernardine's a Tithing Parish. This meant that we as a
parish, well aware of the tremendous financial blessings God has given us,
would in the coming year give away ten percent of our income.
A tithing committee was formed with a single directive from the pastor
"our tithe is not to benefit our parish in any way". Frank
Loffa was chair, the other members being Priscilla Brehm, Jim Clark, Sonia
Gioriani-Johnston, Gregoria Leoni, Glenn Sataloff and Father Robert McNamara,
Pastor.
The committee went to work and after much discussion decided that the
$100,000.00 tithe (it was raised slightly by the finance committee to
facilitate ease of division) would be divided as follows: fifty percent would
go to international needs, the other fifty percent would be divided equally
between national needs and local needs.
