Christ The Teacher Above the Sanctuary

Liturgical Furnishings play an essential role in the worship experience. It is in worship that the faithful encounter the God of al creation in the most profound way. In the liturgy we come to find nourishment for our journey of faith.

Painting of Christ the Teacher or Pantocrator

"I am the Alpha and the Omega." says the Lord God. (Rev. 1:8), "...who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." The oldest representation of Christ Pantocrator (Christ the Teacher) is found in the Rabula Manuscript of 586. In the early Middle Ages, the Pantocrator looks out from domes and apses of cathedrals over the expanse of the church. Christ is shown frontally and in half-figure, the right hand raised in benediction and in the left hand a Gospel Book. The letters IC XC spell out "Iesous Khristos", the Greek shortened form of Christ’s name.  More on these icons at Printeryhouse.org

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men."
